HELLO, it's me!
A New Year and a flurry of new followers so I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Leni (pronounced Len eeee), it's not my real name but I've been known by it for over half my life now so only my mum calls me by my real name.

I've been running cakes by Leni full-time for 10 years this March but have been in business 16 years. I started making cakes in 2005 when my husband (then boyfriend) started working evenings and I was bored, so started a night class at Hull College. The course was very old fashioned (think royal icing, frills and crimping) so I learn a lot myself by just having a play. Word got round and I started making cakes for friends and family and then for Christmas 2007, my hubby (still boyfriend) bought me the domain name www.cakesbyleni.co.uk and told me 2008 was the year to officially start my cake business.

I also worked full time but my employment was government funded contracts, so it was only a matter of time before I was made redundant... But that didn't happen until 2014 and thankfully my business was well established by then!

Anyway, that's how I got into cakes. My hubby finally proposed to me after 7 years together and we got married the following year. Blessed with 2 boys, one now a sulky teenager and the other a whirlwind to say the least, life is busy!

My weekends are filled with cake deliveries and ice hockey matches (our second home).

I'm not a content creator so you'll get lots of average photos of my creations and lots of talking to my phone stories about cakes and life in general. I sometimes run cake raffles to raise money for local charities.

I don't have a particular style as I like a challenge so hit me with your ideas. I DO make buttercream cakes (lots of wedding cake makers won't touch buttercream but I love working with it).

So Christmas is usually my downtime but when it's your youngest nephews first birthday, well the cake room gets reopened.

His mum is a crazy Disney lady so of course little Alfie had to have a Disney themed birthday of some sort and Nemo was the chosen one.

And the end of the 2024 wedding season was completed with this gorgeous semi naked cake. How does something with not a hint or tinsel, bubbles or red colouring, just totally shout out 'Christmas Wedding'. Each tier was adorned with a ring of fresh rosemary so the sweet cake smell was just fabulous with the aroma of the rosemary too!

It's been a white since I iced a cake with rolled icing and the ganache just didn't want to play ball (I think the chocolate recipes have been tweaked again). But this lovely 4 Tier was originally ordered as a 3 tier semi naked cake but after a year postponement due to welcoming a new baby, the couple decided to change the design completely and add matching cookie favours.

Last week saw the official end of the burnt orange autumn feel cakes for 2024. Can't wait to do them again 2025 as I just love autumn weddings.

Well what can we say.... Spectacular! What a fabulous night we all had! Thank You to @sleepersbar for hosting the Hull and East Riding Suppliers night out! The food was amazing, the atmosphere incredible and the staff were just the best. Fabulous music by @joewhitedj got the party started and the selfie camera by @innovationents was a highlight of the night. Gorgeous decor by @lunamooneventshull and balloons by @surpriseshessle that just added that extra to the night and we all need extra!

Cute little baby shower cake this weekend with matching sage green cupcakes. The happy parents to be sent me through some lovely images of the set up and were so happy with the cakes.

Makes a change from weddings but this week I used 13.5kg of buttercream.. Unreal!

Loving this burnt orange bottom tier against the neutral Buttercream tiers above and these dried flowers look amazing on this cake. Completed with edible gold embellishments... This cake just screams "Autumn is HERE" and I'm totally here for it!

This lovely cake was delivered to @carltonmanoryorkshire a few weeks back and displayed in the fabulous tipi's. Fresh florals were provided by @perfectvenuedressingyorkshire and the topper was hand modelled by me. Completely made a of sugar and made from a selection of photos provided by the couple. I had to ask the groomsmen to keep the groom out of the tipi, so he wouldn't see his bride dress prior to the ceremony. I mean, can you imagine spoiling the surprise!!!
